Data monetization process model - longitudinal research with Demola Global



It has been agreed that Jarkko Moilanen will do a longitudinal case study of Demola Global's entry into the data economy. This is part of Jarkko's doctoral research. Entering the data economy is a transformation journey that requires clear goals, processes, and models to follow in order to be successful. Demola and Jarkko have agreed to continue working on the mentioned topics for the coming months.


The result of the cooperation will be a clear model on how any organization can enter data monetization with a clear business-driven systematic method.

The first data product is out already!

Jarkko initiated the work with Demola Global already in fall 2021. The result of the trial phase was one data product that is now available for the public at Platform of Trust Data Marketplace. In the development Data Product Toolkit was used and it provided solid framework on actual product development. Development of the product continues and customer-driven test usage is about to start.



The cooperation will include design workshops, strategy workshops, educating the Demola staff, and igniting a data literacy program in the organization. The first phase was more or less around refining and designing data commodities as products and services. The result included multiple data product ideas which created the initial foundation for a data product portfolio.


During the first phase, Jarkko documented the process as drawings and notes "just in case". Now that decision became handy and all that documentation can be used as a base for the next versions of the model and processes.
